Mildred Ruth Marks

March 4, 1920 - September 16, 2018

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, "Lil" Grandma, leader, and friend. On Sunday, September 16, 2018, Mildred Ruth Marks left us all to be with her Lord and Savior.
Mildred was born March 4, 1920, to Martin and Ella Drews and grew up with her sister Jeanette and brother Arlen in Winneconne. She attended the country schools and graduated from Winneconne High School in 1938. In 1940 Mildred married Wayne Marks and they shared 60 years together, most of those on a farm in Allenville.
Mildred and her husband raised three sons, Donald (deceased); Gerry, of Allenville; and Roger (Marlene), of Neenah. She has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Chris (Jenn) Marks, and children Garrett and Brady, of Winneconne; Becky Marks, and children Kelvin and Emma, of Menasha; Tammi Marks, and son Jaiden, of Minnesota; Andy Marks, of Colorado; and Nathaniel (Julie) Marks, and children River and Beckett, of Ohio; and Brenda Marks, of Menasha;
Preceding Mildred in death were her parents; her husband; a son; and her sister and brother.
Mildred was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne. Her strong faith throughout her life led her to share and teach Sunday school and Confirmation classes for over 20 years at Grace Lutheran Church, Winchester. Mildred also served on the Society Ministry Committee, sang in the church choir, greeted on Sunday mornings, attended monthly Bible ladies circles, and served on various committees. For many years she served as a part-time secretary at Grace.
For over 60 years Mildred has been a member of the Winnebago County, University of Wisconsin Homemakers where she has held many offices on the local and county level. She was a member of the Lamplighters Club. Mildred shared her love working with children; she was a strong supporter of the 4-H organization and for many years loved working at the Winnebago County Fair. She enjoyed the many friends from around the county. Mildred was recognized and was given many special awards for her support and leadership with the University Extension in Homemakers, 4-H, and the County Fair.
For many years she worked at the Wisconsin School Board Association, was a member of the Vinland Community Club, and the Winchester Area Historical Society, and had volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Store.
She loved baking, cooking, flowers, gardening, keeping things organized, and keeping the home cheerful and a warm place for friends to visit. Mildred always enjoyed having friends and being a part of her family's life. She attended many of the grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's school activities and attended the Fine Arts and sporting events of her children. Mildred always had a smiling face, a warm heart, and kind words for everyone! She enjoyed traveling and the many short road trips that she and Gerry made. Mildred accomplished many goals in her 98 years.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. Visitation will continue on Monday, September 24 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Dr. Larsen, Wisconsin. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Connie Bramlett officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, with a lunch to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Grace Lutheran Church, Winchester; Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Neenah; Rawhide Boys Ranch; or Abel Missionaries.
If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfuneralhomeinc.com.
